My first live sport game

It’s surprising that my first live sports game was not a football one, nor those I am not familiar with but are popular in Taiwan, such as baseball or basketball. It was an Ice Hockey game. Ice Hockey in subtropical Taiwan? Oh, that’s because people who came to Taiwan from north countries seem to be nostalgic and need something quite the same to feel like home. So, several amateur clubs that recruit these foreigners (of course there are some Asian faces in them, but they are of small amount) joined a league called “Chinese-Taipei Ice Hockey League” and was sectionalized into International Division. But if you ask me why there would be Ice Hockey League in Taiwan? Sorry, I really can’t figure it out!!

Therefore, I showed up at Taipei Arena Stadium, as far as I know, the only place where people go ice-skating. My friend got two final tickets from his English teacher, who is a Canadian, and he invited me. This is the first time I came to Taipei Arena, and also my first time to see such a high density of foreigners in Taipei (more than NTNU, where they learn Chinese, or Tienmu, where many of them live). So I bought hot dog (hotdog is a must-have in sports games!) and coke, found a seat right next to the players’ bench, then waited the game to start.

The two teams that earned playoff final tickets are the Tigers and the Bears. I know nothing about Hockey at all, however after observing I guess it is a bit like football, which also has a goal, a goalkeeper and the offside rule. Nevertheless, hockey is a violent version of football I think. Players who offend or start a fight with others would just be locked in the penalty box for a few minutes, but it could be a red card in football games! No wonder the game goes in a violent way and makes me so uneasy.

Overall, it was great to be in a live sports game, at least the atmosphere was novel to me. But there’s one thing nasty happened there. There’s one guy, who might be too drunk or kind of crazy, kept shout bad things to the players, and those words are so dirty that I can’t understand them all. He reminded me of the Yankees fan who always shout “yo~Johnny~” to Johnny Damon (for reference, search “Yo Johnny” on youtube), but the Yankees guy is much cuter then this psycho. He not only shouted bad words but also put his whole opened mouth next to the glass in front of us and started licking the glass! What a pervert?! That’s gross! And this is not the end of the whole scene. After the game was over, the Bears won the championship and was lining up for the ceremony, the crazy guy took off his trousers and underwear and started running in the ground. I was so glad at that moment, because it is too far to see clearly his hairy butt. You ask me why I know his butt is hairy?? Because ten minutes later when I was looking around the whole stadium, I saw him standing near my seat, still without trousers and was pulling apart the two sides of his butt. Don’t imagine that! or you’ll get sick like I did. >_<

This is my first live sports game, but it cast a shadow on my memory........I think I will never like Hockey in my life...
